Welcome to the Old School Holiday Cottage
in the heart of the Peak District National Park.
Hidden in the depths of the Peak District National Park, in a small historic and beautiful village called Birchover you can find The Old School Cottage. It is a compact and cosy self contained holiday cottage positioned in the grounds of a converted Victorian School. The cottage contains one double bed, kitchen area with cooker, fridge and dishwasher, sitting area with a hi-fi, TV and VCR and en suite Bathroom.
We supply all the linen and towels, soap and shower gel so all you need to pack is your toothbrush!
Birchover is set in the heart of the Peak District so as you can imagine there are stunning views from the cottage in winter or from your own private courtyard in the summer! The cottage is an ideal base for many local walks and cycle rides or if you are after a more relaxing break we are only a short drive away from Bakewell, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and many more local attractions.
The apartment is non smoking and pets are welcome.
Birchover School started out as a Victorian Infant School in 1884 and was then closed down in 1988 as the school in the neighbouring village Stanton-in-Peak took over the demand of the teaching of all local infants and juniors. The building then lay empty for a year until the conversion from school into house began in 1989.
We moved in during the summer of 1990 and as well as continuing the
conversion we took on the enormous task of turning a playground covered in
tarmac into a garden. This involved many, many skips! The Garage was then built from scratch (and was an ongoing project for many years!) The last job was to convert the outbuildings which had been used for storage for what can only be called junk! The building had to be almost completely rebuilt and is now a beautiful self contained cottage
